this weekend.

 { source + how to = xo in my room

{ how to make t's feel vintage + how to = glitter guide }

this weekend/

I made THIS roast beef and cooked it to an eternal temp of 135 like the recipe says /// cut into it and I am fairly certain it was still mooing.? epic fail. Don't worry the hubs came to rescue and finished cooking it on the grill. (thanks hubs)

I also made THIS coleslaw recipe and added blue cheese. This was not an epic fail, it was oh so good.

Harvey was let out of captivity, and even got to sleep upstairs.

Elisabeth read the entire book of  Go, Dog, Go. She is such a good little reader. I am so proud.

Lyla was/is teething. Poor thing. She is miserable, and cranky, and not napping.

The hubs rocked THIS song at worship, and it has been stuck in my head ever since.

We went to a baptism on Sunday, Elisabeth and Jude watched. Afterwards Jude told me, "Mom.? I love Jesus, BUT I don't want to put my head under that water." he may or may not have made me laugh.

p.s. yesterday it was 70+ degrees in January!? don't be jealous though tonight we will be getting snow...

she. // birthday girl.

she is one year older. she is 6.  she loves jesus.  she loves gum and staying up late. she loves to build snowman, and would swim all day long if you let her. she started school this year, and lost her two front teeth. she is a free spirit. she spins and she sways to whatever song plays. she carries all her joy and sadness in her eyes. she loves snacks. she loves princesses and "bun-bun". she is kind. she is a great sister. she doesn't like potatoes in any shape or form, including french fries. she loves to draw, and color, and paint, and sing. she is our "princerella". she has rosy cheeks. she is a red head. she is my buddy and daddy's sweetheart. she perfectly happy staying in her pj's all day long. she almost never gets called elisabeth by jude only "sissy". she is a champion snuggler. she loves movies and the color pink.

this girl and school.

see this girl?
she goes back to school tomorrow.
after 17 wonderful days at home.

It wouldn't really be that big of a deal except, about 2 weeks before Christmas, she decided she didn't want to go to school anymore. So for two long weeks I sent her, crying.every.single.morning. Talk about ripping your heart out, and then stomping on it. It was awful. I talked with her teacher to make sure all was ok in class, and it was, and is. She just misses home, and her family.

Has anyone had to deal with this? any tips?

We talk about it, and more importantly pray every morning before school. But still, she is sad.

With all that aside today we are going to enjoy our last day of winter break.! We are going to play princesses, and barbies, and have a tea party. Elisabeth may or may not have talked me into watching THIS movie. We own it and I have still never seen the whole thing (i may or may not have fallen alseep, both times.)

p.s for "snow" as seen in the princess photo above just mix water and dish soap in a blender or food processor/// it is that simple/// elisabeth and jude both loved it!

diy ornaments.

remember THIS post? I made those cinnamon ornaments with Elisabeth. They were a hit!  Jude loved it too, which is always a bonus. If you decide to make them, make sure they are thick. oh. and they smell ah-maz-ing.!.!

I am in charge of Elisabeth's class party and I was looking for a craft. I came across THIS via pinterest. I thought I would try it out and do a trail run pre-class party. EPIC FAIL. has anyone used this recipe before? seriously, it was a mess and looked like a huge white glob.

So I just went back to the good 'ol salt dough recipe. you will need:

2 cups of flour /1 cup of salt/ 3/4 cup of water (add a little more water is dough is clumpy) /roll out dough and cut with cookie cutters/ poke holes for hanging/ makes sure holes are big enough to fit string through/ bake at 200 for 20 mins then flip and bake for 10 mins./ when finished you can paint or color with marker/ use glitter and what ever other decor you want/ you can even add glitter prior to baking/

cost: less than $1.00 and yeilds about 20-30 ornaments.

elisabeth for president.

{ source + where to buy = BHB kids style}
{ source + where to buy = ross lab

last week elisabeth got to "vote" at school. she also filled out a worksheet about what she would do if she was president. it went a little something like this:

her vice president would be lyla
she would let jude live in the white house with her
she would have a pet dolphin
and she would help our country by planting flowers everywhere.

i couldn't help but smile at this. i love her pure heart and her sweetness. i laughed at the thought of my two brown eyed girls ruling our nation while their brother lived on the white house couch.

well, elisabeth my dear,  i think you can do whatever you set your heart and mind to /// and between you and me i think the world would be a much  better place with flowers everywhere. :)

p.s. jude don't be that brother.
p.s.s. jude, I know you won't/// your much to smart for that.

sister.

Elisabeth wanted a sister so badly. so very badly. She even prayed for one. God anwsered her prayer. I must tell you she is one fantastic sister. She is so calm with her siblings, and kind, and caring. I'm sure that it's part of her natural make up, or her desire to have another girl to play with  ...

or it could be she had a few years of practice dealing with this little monkey

marshmallows.

marshmallows.

Elisabeth loves marshmallows. plained or shaped, big or small, in cereal or alone...the list goes on

I only like lucky charm marshmallows...which is why I pinned THIS.

Speaking of pinterest, I have them to thank for the oreo s'mores...it was worth.every.bite.

Jude had a s'more for the first time this week. Our conversation went like this:

Me: " Judie, did you like your s'more?"

Jude: YES!" except I didn't like the cracker or the marshmallow."

Me: " soooooo...you only liked the chocolate?"

Jude: " YES! I loved the chocolate."

p.s. every time I eat a s'more I can't help but think of this... you're killin me smalls.

lovely weekend.

{ Source + where to buy = BHB kid style

{ source + where to buy = oelwein}

wow. what a lovely weekend.

all 5 family members under the same roof  + much needed rain = pure bliss.

We relaxed, went to a birthday party, introduced our children to Superman...Mr. Reeves style....Lyla laughed and laughed at Elisabeth playing pee a boo with a dish towel...

&

Jude became interested in cowboys...he dressed up in a cowboy vest and carried his little guns around...this is quite a big deal considering he flat out refuses to play dress up and really doesn't play with toys...He only plays baseball, with the morons, rolling ball, or wanders around the house doing ... well whatever it is that Jude does all day long?

overall the weekend was a success.

How was your weekend?

p.s I totally doing a giveaway over at miss susan's blog ... it is a great giveaway...plus she is a fantastic blogger...so go on...check it out!

dog days of summer.

For those of you who have been reading for a while know I have issues with Elisabeth starting Kindergarten. Those of you who know me in real life know I really have issues  with Elisabeth starting kindergarten. 6 days. 6 days is all I have left with that little red head of mine.

{I seriously just about cried typing that. I may or may not have had a few break downs already. }

I know that I may not share funny stories about my first born, the way I do with jude...or post tons of pictures on instagram the way I do with Lyla. But that girl of mine holds my heart. She is my buddy. She keeps me company all day long when the hubs is away, chats my ear off, offers constant signing in the background while I work... I just adore her.

I often tease Elisabeth and tell her lets send Jude to kindergarten and she can stay home with me ; )

I know she will be just fine. In fact she will be over the moon about school. It is all me.

So I am going to soak up the last of these dog days of summer and create a few more memories to go along with the one we already have:

swimming and jumping of the diving board/ late night summer walks to the ice cream store/ sleepovers/  slip n slide days/ trips to union station/ road trips to St. Louis/ all star game events/ making cookies/ discovering dinosaurs/ lazy days of watching tv and reading books/ fireworks and smoke bombs/ cousins/ more sidewalk chalk than we can ever remember/ picking tomatoes/ watching our pumpkins grow/ princess and barbies/ museums/ arts and crafts/ movies, popcorn, and snuggling/

elisabeth and fairies.

{ source + where to buy = the enchanted door}

Elisabeth has paper poms in her room...they hang right below the air vent...

The other night they were blowing around and she thought there were ghost in her room.

I assured her that it was just the vent, and in my best mom voice told her that, "there are no such things as ghosts."

I got crickets and a blank stare.

I then told her maybe there weren't ghost flying around, maybe there were fairies in her room.

This time I got big eyes and a smile.

I then told her we should check for pixie dust in the morning.

There may or may not have been glitter in her room when she woke up :)
